Tibs/ Beef Steak

Tibis (Beef Steak) is another common dish in the Ethiopian cuisine.


1 lbs Beef (cut in cubes)
1 Red Onion (sliced in pieces)
1 Tomato
1 clove of Garlic (optional)
2 tbsp Cooking Oil
1/2 tsp Black pepper (optional)
1 tsp Salt
Fresh Rosemary
1 Green Pepper
Awaze/a blend of berbere and butter/oil (optional)


  1. Cut the beef into small cubes, mix it with salt, oil, and/or black pepper
  2. Add oil on a pan and make it warm under medium heat
  3. Add the beef cubes into a warm pan under medium heat, cook it occasionally stirring
  4. Add the fresh rosemary
  5. Cut the onion in to slices and add it to the cooking pan, occasionally stirring
  6. Add the chopped green pepper and chopped tomato to the cooking mix, and stir it occasionally

If you want to spice the serving, blend berbere with oil or melted kibeh (butter) and serve it at the side with the Tibs. It is traditionally served with Injera but it can also be served with bread, pitta, or rice.
