Firfir

Firfir is one popular food that can be served for any meal. The main ingredient here is Injera (the flat Ethiopian food), broken into pieces. It can be made with fresh beef, dried beef, or without any meat. It is just like making a stew and adding the Injera (broken into pieces) into the stew.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Injera
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Tomatoes (optional)
  • 3-4 tbsp Oil
  • 1-2 tbsp Berbere
  • Fresh or dried beef (optional)
  • 1 tbsp of Kibbeh (spiced butter) (optional)
  • 1 tsp of black cardamom
  • 1 big pepper/sliced (optional)

Directions:

  1. Chop the onion, put it on a pan and cook it on medium heat occasionally stirring.
  2. Add oil, Berbere, and chopped tomato (the tomato is optional).
  3. Cook for 10-15 minutes in medium heat to make it like a stew
  4. If you prefer to make it with beef, add the fresh/dried beef and cook it 7-10 minutes adding water little by little to cook the beef to a desired tenderness
  5. Add a 1/4 cup of water and bring it to boil
  6. Add butter or other mixed spices (both optional)
  7. Cut the Injera into little pieces
  8. Turn the heat low or off and add add the Injera in to the boiled stew
  9. Wait for a few minutes until it cools and serve it on a plate
