Learning management systems (LMS) are software applications for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of educational courses and other learning programs. An LMS is where your online course will live. It is where you will go to class, interact, find your content, and turn in your work. Your content will generally be divided into weeks, lessons, or modules, depending on the LMS and instructor. The layout and design of your courses within a particular LMS may vary from course to course due to instructor preferences.

There are numerous LMS’s available, and some of the most popular include Blackboard, Canvas, Design2Learn / Brightspace, Moodle, and Sakai. At Wichita State, the chosen LMS is Blackboard.
